Privacy Policy

The short version: this site doesn’t ask you for anything, doesn’t set cookies, and doesn’t follow you around the web.

Who runs this site

thomasjwheatley.com (the “Site”) is run by Thomas J. Wheatley (“I”, “me”), an individual author. If I later set up a company to run the Site, I’ll update this policy to name it.

What I collect

Nothing directly. The Site has no accounts, no sign-up or contact forms, no comments, and no advertising. It doesn’t store anything in your browser: no cookies, no local storage.

Hosting

The Site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. Like any web host, Cloudflare’s servers receive standard technical information whenever a page is requested, including your IP address, your browser and device type, the page requested, and the time. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the Site and protect it from attacks and abuse, as described in Cloudflare’s privacy policy. I don’t use this information to identify anyone.

Analytics

To see how many people visit and which pages they read, the Site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. When a page loads, a small script from Cloudflare reports:

Cloudflare states that Web Analytics doesn’t use cookies or local storage, and doesn’t fingerprint visitors or track them over time. I only ever see totals, such as page views, referring sites, and countries, never individual visitors. If your browser or an ad blocker stops the script, the Site works exactly the same.

Why this is allowed

If you’re in the EU or UK, the legal basis for the hosting and analytics above is my legitimate interest in keeping the Site secure and understanding, in aggregate, how it’s read. Neither is used for advertising, and I don’t sell or share information about visitors.

Children

The Site doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Features that ask for information, such as a newsletter, will come with an age requirement, and this policy will spell it out before they launch.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or California’s CCPA give you rights to access, correct, or delete personal information about you, or to object to how it’s used. Because I don’t hold personal information about visitors, there is usually nothing for me to hand over or erase, but you’re welcome to ask. Requests about Cloudflare’s own processing can also go to Cloudflare directly.

Changes

When the Site adds anything that collects information, such as a newsletter or contact form, I’ll update this page before it goes live and change the date at the top.
